Toxic positivity refers to the act of rejecting or denying stress, negativity
or negative experience that exist. Though it's tough to deal with negative
emotions but it doesn't mean one should not feel them at all. People
mostly recommend to think positive or react positive, no matter what the circumstances
are. Such advises often prevent the individuals to feel what they actually
want to feel.
Most of the people feel ashamed or face
embarrassment while expressing their true emotions due to societal
expectations. However, some are scared to face negative emotions that may
acknowledging them is a sign of weakness. It’s ok to not feel positive or
optimistic all the time. Allow yourself to experience all emotions.
Own your feelings,
acknowledge them, explore them with curiosity and accept them rather than
judgement. Don't avoid sadness, anxiety or suppress negative emotions. Let
your emotions come out despite of burying them deep inside and feel them
fully. Being positive is good until it's not getting toxic. Learn to scrutinize
your emotions, identify them. Don't let the positivity to get toxic and
ruin your mental health. Hence, excess of everything is bad no matter that
is positivity or negativity.
