It is a short story which is written by Oscar Wilde. There are two main characters the happy prince and the Swallow.
It is the story of a prince who lives in a
place in a place of England called Sans Suci (which means without grief). And
the sorrows are not allowed to enter that place. The prince lives in luxurious life, and he is always happy in his life. But he is not aware of any
sorrows of life. Suddenly, the prince died naturally.
After
the death of the happy prince, he was converted into a statue and was fixed at
a high place in the city. The statue was converted with precious golds and
rubies. Because of the beauty of the statue, all the people appreciated it.
One night a swallow was flying to Egypt on the
way the swallow got night and he stayed in the feet statue. He saw that the
statue was weeping. he asked the statue who you are. Statue replied that I
am the happy prince. Once more question he asked to state that if you are the
happy prince then why you are weeping. He told the entire story that when I was
alive, I was totally an awareness of the miseries and sorrows of the common
people. And he said that I saw a man who was a writer but due to cold weather
his hands became cold and could not write.
The
statue requested the swallow to become his messenger and distribute all his
golds among the poor people. The swallow accepted the request and distributed
all his precious golds and rubies among the poor people of the city.
Gradually,
the people became happier but outwardly the statue grew uglier. The weather
became harsher which resulted from the death of the swallow. As the swallow died the
Leadon heart of the prince. The swallow was thrown onto the heap of rubbish. The
statue of the prince was sent to a foundry to melt; all the parts of the statue were
melted except his broken heart. It was thrown away by the workers.
God commanded to the angel bring two precious gifts from the world. At the
command of God, the angel of mercy picked up the broken heart of the prince and
also the dead swallow. Dog appreciated the choice of the angel.
Moral:
We need to deem the problems of poor people and give sacrifices to remove the poverty
